Working hard on the producers show opening. Heres the Damn Handsome rig! I put this guy together in over the course of 1 night, including his shaders, skinning and rig! Im so thankful for advanced skeleton (http://www.creativecrash.com/maya/script/advancedskeleton).
I haven’t made a traditional rig in a while so it was this was good refresher. In some ways I think this character deforms better than rigs I took six months to make when I first started doing this.

radiopure said: Hello! I've been looking at your art and it's amazing, I love how your film for your senior year is going, it's amazing, I love the look it has. May I ask how did you shade it? I've been playing with the toon shader in Maya but I haven't get the results I want to, I'm not sure if you use the regular shaders from Maya or if you used any plugin, thanks in advance! Good luck :)
Thanks! :) Thats a good question! I have a weird answer. Theres no special shaders here, everything Im doing is rendered real-time. Most of what you see is actually how it looks in the maya viewport except for some color correction and stuff I do in After Effects. I’ve been screen capping the maya viewport to show process a bit.
The work flow is to vertex color everything by hand for local color, then optimize it using viewport 2.0. I add light and shadow in real-time that way. Its a really fun way to work! There is a plugin out there to help do this type of coloring. Its called vertex chameleon, I did a lecture on how to use it here.
Just a heads up, theres not a lot of support for this method, and you wont see it used at studios. I learned approach from David Orielly the mad genius (hype), and he might be one of the only people out there using viewport 2.0 in this way.
